If You Love Someone, Take Care of Them: What are the Symptoms of Covid-19

Are you worried, or paranoid, about the second wave of the pandemic? Let’s stay on our toes. No matter how carefully we avoid this virus, it can still catch up to us, especially when people aren’t as cautious as before. And since the initial state of the virus is usually asymptomatic, most people don’t even realize when they are first infected. So it’s crucial to monitor ourselves with care. So here is a checklist of Covid-19 symptoms for you to be aware of.

According to the Department of Disease Control, the symptoms of Covid-19 include:

  • Fever (body temperature of above 37.5C)
  • Sore throat
  • Dry cough
  • Runny nose
  • Shortness of breath
  • Phlegm (may be with/without blood)
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Body aches
  • Possibility of nausea
  • Diarrhea

The virus targets the lungs, causing pneumonia and other lung failures which are the usual cause of death in severe cases. Each person reacts differently to this novel coronavirus. It is statistically less severe in young people, and more so in the elderly, especially those who have pre-existing health conditions.

Although the symptoms are quite similar to seasonal flu, it is much more severe. What’s more, there are no antibiotics nor vaccines that cure it at its cause yet. Treatments aim to prevent any complications in the lungs that could lead to lung failure.

That is why it is important to stay vigilant. Wear a mask when in public and wash your hands regularly either with water and soap or alcohol gel. Monitor yourself and the people around you daily with this checklist of symptoms. Stay safe, everyone.
