If You Love Someone, Take Care of Them: How to Treat a Dry Nose

The first week of the year is still cool, and some of you, especially those that are taking a long vacation somewhere up north, may experience a dry nose from the cold weather. The rest of us sitting at home can also suffer from this condition from the dryness of an air-conditioned room. But worry not. There are some easy ways to help relieve the problem of a dry nose.

Keep your skin moisturised. Keeping your skin moisturised can relieve the itching in your nose that is caused by dryness. With a cotton bud, apply a small amount of petroleum jelly on the area around your nose. This way, petroleum jelly acts like a shield on your skin and prevents you from the burning sensation caused by itches. If you don’t have petroleum jelly at hand, any type of facial lotion is fine. Although it is not as effective as petroleum jelly, it will at least help relieve the itchiness.

Use nose spray. Nose sprays are an instant and effective relief for a dry nose. Make sure you pick a spray that is gentle on the inside of your nose, and helps relieve congestion and allergies.

Use a humidifier.

This one is a pricey solution, but it will make a difference for your nighttime sleep. Adding moisture to the air reduces the chances of sneezes, coughs, and dry nose that can disturb your slumber hours. It is recommended to use warm or room temperature water vapour. Add herbal essential oils such as menthol or lemongrass to help relieve congestion. Don’t go for a strong smell that will further clog your nose. Oh, and don’t forget to clean your humidifier daily to prevent bacteria build up.

Give your face a light massage.

Massaging the area around your nasal passage can alleviate bad sinuses. Massage with rosemary, peppermint, or lavender oils for a better result. Be careful not to get the oil in your eyes, though. Use your fore- and middle fingers to gently press your forehead, the bridge of your nose, temples, and under your eyes in a circular motion. After that, use a warm damp towel to wipe off the oil.

Don’t blow your nose so hard.

Blowing your nose aggressively can cause endo rhinitis, and that can’t be good for your dry nose problem. Instead of blowing your nose as hard as you can to relieve the congestion, try gently squeezing the bridge of your nose to let the mucus drip, and wipe away with a soft tissue. Another way is to close one nostril with your finger, and blow air slowly out of the other. If the congestion is really bad, try a bulb syringe.

These are some easy ways to treat a dry nose. Even if dry nose is not a serious problem, if left untreated, it can lead to some annoying issues later so you better treat it properly now. Take care.
