Mr Househusband’s Kitchen Tips: Making Beef Wellington for At-Home Valentine Date

Since Covid-19 is still raging, you can’t take your partner out to dinner anywhere for Valentine, can you? But don’t lose heart. You can still make your own romantic dinner date at home with this great recipe. Beef Wellington is a luxurious dish perfect for a special occasion. If you order this dish at a restaurant, I’m sure it will cost you a good Bt1,000 at the very least. So why not try and make it yourself so you can enjoy the romantic Valentine’s dinner date at home?

Ingredients

  1. Store-bought pie crust
  2. Beef fillet
  3. Champignon mushrooms
  4. Salt and pepper
  5. Red onion
  6. Bacon
  7. Egg
  8. Parsley
  9. 1 tablespoon mustard
  10. 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  11. 2 cloves of garlic
  12. salt and pepper
  13. 1 teaspoon curry powder
  14. 1 egg

Method

  1. Roast the beef fillet on a skillet to your preferred level of cooking. Remove the fillet from the pan.
  2. To make mushroom duxelle, chop the mushrooms to a fine texture. Over low heat, stir fry the red onions until aromatic. Add mushrooms and season with salt and pepper. Continue stirring until cooked and reduced before adding parsley.
  3. On a plastic wrap, lay the bacon out in a row slightly overlapping. Spread the mushroom duxelle evenly over the bacon, and then sit the roasted beef on top. Roll the plastic to wrap the bacon around the beef. Twist the ends to tighten the wrap. Rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  4. Dust your working surface with flour and roll the pie crust out to perfect thickness. Make sure it is big enough to cover the beef. Place the beef on top and roll the pie to cover the beef. Use egg to glue the dough together if needed. Once you have wrapped it well enough, egg wash the whole pie and bake in the oven at 190C for 20 minutes.
  5. For the sauce, mix everything together.
  6. Once the pie looks golden brown, take it out of the oven to serve.

Set the table with candles and flowers to create some Valentine vibes. Surprise your partner with a bouquet of flowers, serve the Beef Wellington, and follow with a bottle of wine. Your at-home romantic Valentine dinner date is now on.
